We’re pleased to announce that GP Connect Structured Medications and Allergies is now live within the Great North Care Record (GNCR)

This NHS England national solution enables medication and allergy information from primary care records to be displayed directly within dedicated GNCR widgets, providing health and care professionals with a more consistent view of information regardless of the GP clinical system used by the practice.
This is a significant milestone for the programme, helping to improve information sharing across health and care organisations and supporting safer, more informed care for patients across the region. This development will ensure patients don’t need to keep repeating their medical history over and over again.
The launch builds on the successful delivery of Phase 1 in February 2024, which introduced the ten standard GP Connect HTML reports within the GP Records widget. GNCR continues to work closely with NHS England and the GP Connect team to develop and deliver additional structured datasets in the future.
While data from Medicus practices is not yet available through GP Connect Structured, we are exploring this as a future development.
Supporting safer, more informed care
Access to accurate medication and allergy information is an important part of delivering safe and effective care. This latest enhancement helps ensure key information is easier to locate and use, supporting decision-making at the point of care.
Helena Gregory, Strategic Head of Medicines and Pharmacy, Neighbourhood Commissioning, said:
“One of the things people tell us is that they expect clinicians caring for them already know what medicines they take and whether they have any allergies. In reality, that information sits in different systems across different organisations and isn’t always visible when it is needed. The medicines and allergies module within the Great North Care Record brings that information together, giving clinicians access to important details at the point of care. This supports safer prescribing, reduces the risk of medicines-related harm and helps people experience joined-up care. Importantly, it provides reassurance that wherever someone accesses care across North East and North Cumbria, the information needed to make safe, informed decisions is available.”
Dr Phil Stamp, Regional Clinical Safety Officer, Great North Care Record, said:
“The structured care information coming from GP Connect will allow clinicians and carers to more easily and quickly see an individual’s medications and allergies record as it will drop into the appropriate place in GNCR rather than having to search within all of the GP information in the GP widget.”
