Great North Care Record Shortlisted for two HSJ Awards
The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on behalf of the North East and North Cumbria (NENC) Integrated Care System (ICS) is delighted to announce that the Great North Care Record has been shortlisted for two HSJ Awards 2021, Connecting Services and Information and Provider Collaboration of the Year, recognising their outstanding contribution to healthcare – in what has been an exceptional and challenging period.
Despite the demanding circumstances during the past 18 months, over 1000 entries have been received for this year’s HSJ Awards, with 205 organisations, projects and individuals making it to the final shortlist. The volume and standards of applications has been a true testament to those health and social care staff, who continue to drive outstanding work and transformational projects across the sector.
The judging panel was from a diverse range of highly influential and respected figures within the healthcare community, including Sir Bruce Keogh (Chair, Birmingham Women’s and Children’s FT), Marie Gabriel CBE (Chair, NHS Race and Health Observatory), and former HSJ Trust of the Year winners Ann Marr OBE (Chief Executive, St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals Trust) and Richard Mitchell (Chief Executive, Sherwood Forest Hospitals FT).
The Great North Care Record standing out amongst tough competition from hundreds of other exemplary applicants based on ambition, visionary spirit and the demonstrable positive impact that it has had on both patient and staff experiences ahead of the official awards ceremony to be held later this year (November 18th).
The Great North Care Record (GNCR) is improving the quality and safety of patient care for the 3.2 million people living across the North East and North Cumbria. The shared care record has enabled thousands of health and care staff – spanning adult social care, primary care, out-of-hours, ambulance, mental health, community and acute care settings – to securely view patient information held in multiple different clinical systems to provide integrated care and improve patient outcomes. The system is accessed over 300,000 times per month and is recognised Cerner’s largest and most used shared care record in the UK.

Knowing that there was such stiff competition this year makes this announcement feel special for everyone involved and the nomination has been a tremendous boost to everybody involved in the project.”
