This Privacy Notice is applicable to all services managed by the Great North Care Record (GNCR).

The Great North Care Record programme is a collaboration of all NHS organisations and Local Authorities across the North East and North Cumbria. We provide an integrated care record and patient engagement platform for the 3.6million people living in the region.  Find out more about our members

The Great North Care Record and this website is managed and run by staff working at The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospital Trust whose registered office is Regent Farm Rd, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne NE3 3HD.  The  Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospital Trust privacy statement can be viewed via this link.

GNCR Website

Information we may collect about you on our website

We are committed to safeguarding the privacy of our website visitors.

As with most websites there are some types of information which will be automatically tracked. This includes information about your computer, and about your visits to and use of this website such as:

  • the type of browser you are using
  • the searches you carry out
  • the length of your visit on our site
  • the number of pages you viewed.

We use this data internally to understand the kind of information our visitors are looking for so that we can continually improve the content we provide on our website. This information does not contain any personal details and so our users cannot be identified in any way.

Secure submission forms

We have some secure forms on our website where we ask for your name and other details where appropriate. These forms have been set up to help us respond to the most common requests for information:

All personal information is treated in the strictest confidence and is not stored on the website. Information submitted via our secure forms goes directly to a manned NHS mailbox via secure NHS Mail and is not shared with any third parties.

Legal Basis

GNCR are not a legal entity and don’t hold or process any patient data. Health Information Exchange

The Health information exchange (HIE) provides Healthcare professionals across the North East & North Cumbria with secure electronic access to a citizen’s Health and care information. More information about the HIE can be viewed by visiting the link.

Opting out of Great North Care Record

You can prevent your patient record being made available on the Great North Care Record by completing the opt out form on this website.

The information you provide will only be accessed by Newcastle Hospitals who manage the Great North Care Record on behalf of the region. They will remove you from sharing electronic records as part of the Great North Care Record. We urge you to read this information which explains more about what opting out means.

The information you submit is held securely and is only held for the purposes of opting you out. The information is deleted once it is retrieved by Newcastle Hospitals. The opt out is registered on the Great North Care Record’s Health Information Exchange.

My GNCR

My GNCR will provide patients and citizens across the North East and North Cumbria with secure, electronic access to their own secondary healthcare records via the NHS App. More information about My GNCR can be viewed by visiting the link.

By accessing our service using your NHS login details, all identity verification services are managed by NHS Digital.  NHS Digital is  the controller for personal information provided to create an NHS Login account and associated identity verification.  This information is used solely for that single purpose. Our role is as a “processor” only for this personal information and we must act under the instructions provided by NHS Digital (as the “controller”) when verifying your identity.  This restriction does not apply to personal information you provide us with separately.  The NHS Digital Privacy Notice and Terms and Conditions can be seen here.

If you require any further information regarding your health and care information accessed via this service please get in touch with your care provider directly.

We use NHS Digital’s notifications and messaging service to send you information.  Further information about this service can be found at the  NHS App  privacy notice.

Changes to this privacy notice

We reserve the right to update this privacy notice at any time. We will notify you with a new privacy notice when we make any substantial updates. We may also notify you in other ways from time to time about the processing of your personal information.
