In late 2019 we hosted a bursary award for members of the Great North Care Record – Network. We were inundated with applications and are pleased to announce we funded not one but four applications.
The bursary award was for £1500 from the Network budget. The aim was to fund learning and development opportunities for Network members.
A panel of Network Steering Group members reviewed all the applications and awarded partial funding to four individuals.
Three recipients attended modules of a course run by the Institute of Coding in conjunction with Newcastle University and Health Education England. Dr Daniel Weiand from Newcastle Hospitals, a Consultant Medical Microbiologist and Educational Lead for medical microbiology was interested in developing his clinical informatics skills. Lisa Ward, an Early Detection and Resuscitation Lead Nurse and Mortality Lead at Darlington Memorial Hospital. Lisa wants to further develop her clinical informatics skills. Dr Gareth Coakley, a GP from North Cumbria and CCIO also attended some of the modules hosting by the Institute of Coding. He focused his training specifically on cyber security and data protection.
Julie Haigh, a digital midwife at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust asked for funding to support her application for the Chief Nursing Officers Digital Leadership scholarship. Julie is partially funding the training herself so the bursary award she was given has helped her reach her funding target.
Louise Wilson, Professional Engagement Lead and manager for the Network said: “The quality and quantity of applications this time round was amazing. It did make the job of judging the awards much more difficult. As a panel we felt that awarding current and potential clinical digital leaders was an excellent use of the limited fund. We are pleased that we were able to support four applications and we hope we have helped make a difference.”
