Even more data is being shared on the Great North Care Record
North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust has further expanded the services that are now sharing data as part of the Great North Care Record.
For patients across north Cumbria, children’s community services have joined a range of other Trust services in sharing local records with other NHS providers where required. This means that if a child is receiving care elsewhere, for instance at a hospital outside the area or if they require mental health services or support from CAMHS the receiving service can access their relevant healthcare records. This will help staff directly involved in a child’s care to better understand their needs, and be able to work together with parents to make better decisions about their care.
The Great North Care Record electronically connects patient information from GPs, local hospitals, social care, community and mental health teams together across the system, helping to make care better and safer. It securely shares data recorded about patients electronically, such as medications, hospital visits, referrals and letters. It operates in the North East of England and North Cumbria and covers the 3.6m people living in our region.
This means that:
Parents will not need to repeat the same information to different healthcare professionals about their child
Healthcare staff will have full information about your child’s health, reducing possible delays, often incurred when information was shared previously by letter, phone call or fax
The system is only viewed by people involved in your child’s healthcare
It is secure, confidential and there is no risk to your child’s health record being lost or damaged
Ian Harrison, head of application delivery at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust said: “Every service across the Trust now has access to share data through the Great North care record. This is a very exciting achievement for the trust and our patients. The aim now is to look at other data held by the Trust and mimic what other Trusts are doing across the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care System by sharing more information to help to reduce the need for the patient to keep repeating their medical history every time they see a new clinician.”
The Trust joins:
All 400 + GP practices in the North East and North Cumbria
Over 200 community services
Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Cumbria, Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust
South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust
North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust
Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust
North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust
County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust
Sunderland City Council
The aspiration is that patient information will be available from all primary care practices, NHS Trusts and local authorities across the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care System.
